The UBUNTU journey was always going to be about sharing the stories that we do not read about in our papers. It was initially about me, but in true UBUNTU spirit: I am because you are because we are That is why I am starting a foundation along with the help and input from a lot of people. The key co-conspirator is communications strategist, Sarah-Leigh Paul from Africa@Heart. The foundation will be called ‘the UBUNTU effect’ and our vision is to create a world where my story is your story is our story. Our mission is to unite the spirit of UBUNTU across all races and creeds inspiring a global culture of community, compassion and collaboration through the simple act of story sharing. We are ready to sink our teeth into the first project. This is still top secret ;-) and we will stick to a codename for now ;-) – Operation ‘tUb’ We are basically going to retrace the UBUNTU girl footsteps with copies of the UBUNTU book and take a film crew with us. In this way people can meet the families that hosted ‘tUg’ and get to know more about their life stories. At the same time we also plan to take professionals in a few key
social areas: ie environment; education; health etc and a crew of youth to
document the real challenges within communities. We plan to engage with communities and instead of telling people what is needed, we will ask them what their day-to-day challenges are. And find out what solutions they have come up with and or what they think will be possible solutions. We can share this information, advise and possible solutions from one community to the next This is a journey that will take about 6 months. It will be the launching of the foundation. What also makes this special is that the book will only go into mainstream publishing AFTER the journey and once the families have had the opportunity to have their voices heard about our collective story. ‘Cos that’s the right thing to do ;-) Is your fancy tickled??? Please contact us for further details and to find out how you can help us effect social change in South Africa and beyond
